The park rangers talk to you about how fit you are and let you know about the hiking schedule and conditions for each group based on where they were last night in the park. Every day, 88 gorilla permits are made available, with a maximum of 8 trekkers visiting each group.
After the trekkers are divided into groups, the Lead Guide for each group gives a briefing on the trekking protocols and the “do’s and don’ts” when trekking near gorillas. Following the briefing, hikers head back to their cars to make the ascent to the beginning point.
In the event that the gorillas relocate before the park rangers can find them the following morning, trekking may take two to six hours or longer. The guides pause periodically so that hikers can take breaks and snap pictures along the route. Reunite with your driver guide after the hike to be driven to your hotel or resort in time for lunch.
